Chapter 2
Korius walked along the
cobbled, busy streets, past the castle and towards the arena. As he approached
the arena, he stood and gazed at it for a moment. ‘Hmmmm… quite a large venue,
could probably seat thousands, perfect for something like a tournament’. Korius
then entered the arena, where he was met with a large room, full of people who
had signed up for the tournament. Korius approached the main reception. “Welcome
to Nerisca arena! What can I do for you today?” the female receptionist said
cheerfully.
“I’d like to register for the tournament” Korius replied
“Ok sir, What is your name?” the receptionist asked while obtaining a
registration form
“Korius Sorian” the receptionist filled out the form as Korius gave the rest of
his details.
“Excellent! Okay Mr Sorian, the tournament starts at noon tomorrow” stated the
receptionist, she then gives Korius a slip of paper “Please give this to the
guard tomorrow, and he will let you past.” she continued.
“Thanks” Korius replied, he then walked outside. Once he got outside the arena
he began to walk back to the city centre.
While he was on his way back he saw two men just standing around in the street,
leaning against a wall, when a young brown haired woman start to run up the
street, looking quite flustered, carrying food. Just as she was about to pass
the two men, one of them stuck their foot out and tripped the flustered woman
up, causing the items she was carrying to fall on the floor. Both of the men
thought this was extremely funny and began to laugh. When he saw the two men
laugh, Korius decided to teach them a lesson. “HEY! MORON!” he shouted. In doing
so both of the men turned to look at Korius. “Do you think what you did was
funny? Because if you did it just shows how little your brains are” he
continued. This annoyed the men severely
“Just who the fuck are you!?” one of the men shouted.
“Do you think you can beat both of us, Mr Righteous?” the other said
threateningly. Both men began to walk towards Korius. Korius saw that one of
them was carrying a sword. ‘I can't use my sword in this cramped a place if he
has one, i could very well injure that woman... my only option is I have to get
that away from him somehow" he thought. The guy with the sword approached Korius
first and drew his sword. He swung the sword at Korius very quickly and wildly,
Korius attempted to dodge out of the way, but the sword lightly caught the front
of his stomach, causing a light scratch. ‘Damn it!’ thought Korius ‘that was
careless, I’d better be more careful’. The stranger then tried to strike Korius
with the sword again, but he missed and gave Korius an opportunity to disarm him
and throw him to the ground. The stranger quickly got to his feet and tried to
roundhouse kick Korius. Korius blocked the kick and kicked him in the testicles
several times, causing his opponent to fall on the floor in extreme agony. Just
as the second man was approaching, Korius grabbed the sword from the ground and
stood ready with it. As soon as he did this, the other man showed a real amount
of reluctance to go near him. “What’s the matter? Are you scared?” Korius
taunted. The other man fled, after making the observation it wasn’t a smart
thing to attack Korius without a weapon, leaving his friend behind to revel in
pain on the floor.
Korius approached the woman “Are you okay?” he asked.
“Yes I’m ok” the woman replied. “Thank you very much” The woman then saw the
scratch on Korius' side. "Come on in. I have a couple of medical supplies in my
house that I could use" She lead Korius into her home and patched up his wound.
"You don't seem to live here" She said.
"You're right I don't live here" Korius replied "I live in Mecyra Village about
3 miles south of here"
"I guess you're here to participate in the tournament then. We always get a lot
of colourful characters around tournament time, most are ok however you do get
the odd troublemaker" the woman glanced over to the cupboards and sighed "I have
to go back to the market for some more food"
“In that case would you like me to accompany you so that this doesn’t happen
again?” Korius offered
“I would like that” The woman said. They both went outside of the house and
started to walk towards the market.
Meanwhile Tyrone and Reina were at the market. It was mainly Reina who liked
shopping for pretty much everything, especially when it was a bargain. Tyrone
didn't mind getting dragged along with her as it made her happy not to mention
he also got to have a look at some of the weapon stores around town. He
considered seriously entering the tournament himself as he looked at the weapons
but he knew that Reina would be very angry at him if he did so. Also there was a
very real chance of encountering his brother in one of the rounds, and although
he would put up a good fight, he would need a miracle to defeat his older
brother. He sometimes wondered if his brother felt the same whenever Korius
would fight with their recently deceased father to test his progress and
abilities. Both Tyrone and Korius respected their father, for his kind heart but
mainly for his strength. Tyrone was never bothered too much of equalling or
exceeding his fathers strength, however his brother was different. Korius took
his training very seriously and always tried to prove himself to his father. It
wasn't really known to Tyrone or even their father as to why he pursued this
path with such enthusiasm, but his father admired his devotion to his training.
Just as Tyrone was starting to drift off into memories of the past Reina's voice
brought him back to the present. "Tyrone? Is something the matter?" She asked
with a concerned look on her face.
"Don't worry, I just tuned out for a second there" Tyrone replied, smiling. He
then noticed a ring on Reina's hand. "Reina, where did you get that from?" he
asked
"Oh this? I got it from the store just across the road, nice isn't it?"
"Yeah it is"
At this Tyrone looks at the castle. It had a clock on the front with jet black
numbers and a golden background. "We'd better get going and find an inn to stay
at or we'll be late" he said.
"Ok" Reina replied as she held his arm while walking.
After escorting the girl to the market, Korius looks at the clock. 'Hmm... still
a bit of time left, I might as well escort her back' he thought as he watched
the girl buy all the food again. The girl came running back up to him smiling.
"I'll escort you back, I don't want history repeating itself." Korius said
"Thank you" she replied. They started to walk back, past all the shops, in
relative silence until they got halfway back to the womans house.
"I don't think I asked your name Mr...?" the woman asked curiously
"Korius" he replied "I don't recall asking for your name either"
"My name's April"
After introducing each other the two began to talk. When they arrived back at
April's house she turned to face Korius and said "I have a ticket for the
tournament, I'll be watching and praying for you to win"
"Thanks" Korius said 'However I seriously hope it doesn't come to that' he
thought to himself
As he walked back towards the centre, Korius' thoughts began to wander back to
the tournament. As he was going round a corner, a lilac hair woman ran into him,
knocking them both over. The woman looking flustered got to her feet again very
quickly and began to run off again while saying "Am'a late?! Damnit! How
coulda'h furget ta register?!" . After seeing the woman take off, Korius stood
up and dusted himself down. He checked all his belonings and started off again.
Soon he arrived at the centre to see his brother and Reina sitting there waiting
for him.
"Well this is a first" Tyrone said "Its not like you to be late brother"
"I've had a couple of encounters already, probably both of them being with
tournament entrants" Korius replied
Reina looked at the front of his stomach where the strangers had injured him.
"...and I suppose thats what caused that injury?" she asked
"Yes, a woman encountered a couple of thugs, so i intervened. After I helped her
she took care of that slight wound" he answered "have you found a place for us
to stay?"
"We have, and we were lucky to get it too" Reina acknowledged "Its called The
Crescent Inn, we've already reserved the rooms and everything"
"It's also near a tavern, so we could always go and have some fun there later
tonight" Tyrone suggested
"I suppose a drink or two wouldn't do any harm" Korius responded. "first though
I think we should leave our gear at the Inn"
After leaving their possessions at the Inn, the three went to the tavern. Their
arrival to the tavern immediately brought trouble, as a fight was about to
erupt. When Korius saw the three men surrounding the lilac coloured beauty, he
knew trouble was about to start. "Come on lady, lets have some fun together"
said of the three strangers. "we'll have us a REAL good time missy" said
another.
"S'sorry maties, but'ah dunnie think ah'll 'ave fun with a coupl'a scurvies like
you's three" came the lilac haired beauty's reply. As soon as she said that
Korius knew she must be that pirate that the rumors were about.
"What!? What did you say you bitch!?" said the third angrily
"What did'ya jus' call me!?"
"You heard me!" suddenly the womans fist flew through the air connecting with
the first, knocking him out.
"Am'a guessin' you scurvies dun'kno when ta keep ya mouths clamped up" came her
response. After this the other two were about to lunge at her when Tyrone and
Korius intervened and tapped both of the men on their shoulders. "What do you
want!?" they both said. Korius and Tyrone responded by punching them both out.
After both of them fell to the ground, the lilac haired woman recognised
Korius."Aren't ya the savvy ah ran inta jus' earlier?" she questioned
"Yes I am" he nodded
"S'sorry abou'that, ah'was ina hurry. Thanks for takin' care of tha scum for me,
the name's Faye, Hargreaves" as the woman introduced herself she promptly hits
the floor. Korius picks her up to find that she's fallen unconcious. He turned
round to his brother “Tyrone, when you were at the inn, you didn't happen to
notice a customer called Faye Hargreaves staying there did you?” he asked
“I did hear the Innkeeper mention something about a Lilac haired woman staying
there, it might be her.” his brother replied
“I'll take her back to the Inn and make sure she's ok. I might just go to bed
tonight and save my strength for tomorrow” after he said that he took her back
through the dark rainy streets back to the Inn. Korius took the young woman into
the Inn “Excuse me, this young woman doesn't happen to stay here does she?” he
asked the Innkeeper
“Yes, she does! Is she alright!?” The innkeeper inquired looking worried.
“Don't worry, I think its just too much alcohol. Which room is hers?”
“Room 32” The Innkeeper then went with Korius to the room and unlocked it.
“Thanks” Korius went into the room and laid the young woman on the bed.
Afterwards he came out and the Innkeeper once again locked the door. “I'm going
to turn in for the night” he said to the innkeeper
“Ah! You must be the brother of a Mr Sorian?” he questioned
“Yes I am”
“You are in room 45, here's your key” he handed the room key to Korius “Enjoy
your stay”
“Thanks, I will” he replied. Korius approached his room and opened it with his
key, went inside and started getting ready to go to sleep. He lay in bed
wondering about that woman 'Who is she? Is she really a pirate? Will she be my
opponent tomorrow?' Korius sighed and thought to himself 'I hope tomorrow is
slightly less eventful than today' and with that he drifted off to sleep, ready
for the next day.
