‘The darkness is all
around me, what happened to me? Why can’t I see or move?’ I thought to
myself, it felt as though I was moving somehow but not by using my legs, a man
suddenly spoke out…
“Are you sure this is who the doc wants?” He asked
‘The…doc? Am I in a hospital?’
“Oh yeah, I’m sure all right. This guy managed to beat 5 of those monsters
without a weapon, so you could say he was hand picked” his colleague replied
‘Hand picked? Without a weapon…? Who am I? Why can’t I remember?’ A
sudden excruciating pain filled my head, soon after I felt myself rapidly losing
consciousness.
“Poor basterd, well at least I guess he got a few before it happened”
‘I……’ I lost consciousness, I’m not sure how long past, but I was about
to get a hell of an awakening.
“......containment breached! Securi-ARRRRGGHHH!” a man screamed as a large blast
was heard from the room. When I heard that blast, My eyes snapped open. I was
suspended inside a container…a tube of some kind, with other tubes attached to
my body. My attention quickly focused on the room, it looked to be a laboratory,
microscopes and testing equipment lining most of the workstations. As I looked
to find what could cause such an explosion. At the opposite side of the room, I
saw 5, perhaps 6 scientists and medical staff, tied up, and gagged, all fearing
for their lives. I lowered my field of vision to see a man with his back towards
me, but I could still see he was wearing urban combat fatigues along with Kevlar
armor and helmet, equipped with a combat shotgun. He was stood over a corpse of
a doctor in a pool of blood, who had a massive, fatal gunshot wound to the
chest. The shotgun shell used to kill him, had ripped right through his chest,
shredding his heart and lungs along with shattering his rib cage and part of his
spine. The man with the shotgun, cocked it, kicked the corpse. He picked up a
radio he was wearing on the right side of his belt. As he began to speak I
listened intently.
“Grey-1, This is Grey-6, one of the civvies decided to play hero, I’ve made an
example of him” The guard said down the radio.
“Good! If anyone else decides to play hero, reinforce your….authority over them,
in the meantime, we’ll secure the cargo” these people clearly didn’t care for
the scientists and staff working here, if they found me in my present state, I
wouldn’t stand a chance.
‘Guess I have no choice’ I thought as I edged myself slowly towards the
edge of the tube. The guard kicked the body again, and looked at the scientists.
“You all saw what will happen if you try to resist, play nice and no one gets
hurt” During this time, I’d reached the edge of the tube. I brought my arms
back, and slammed them straight through the glass, shattering it into shards
that rained upon the floor. I immediately grabbed hold of the guard and brought
him back to my own body. The guard feebly attempted to resist by punching me and
elbowing me in the stomach, but I didn’t feel any pain at all. As I was
beginning to tire of the charade, I saw him trying to reach for his knife. “Bad
move” I whispered into his ear as I promptly snapped his neck. His body became
lifeless and slumped to the floor. I detached the cables from my body and picked
up the shotgun left by the recently deceased guard. I began to strip his armour
and fatigues from him when a scientist called out. “Thank you!” relieved yet
nervous, the scientist continued to talk. “If you plan on getting out of here,
you’ll need to take the door on your right and at least go down three floors
from here in order to get to the emergency exit on the south side of the
building.”
“Thanks Buddy, will the rest of you be ok?”
“Don’t mention it, we’ll just barricade ourselves in once you’ve left. There’s
also an armoury on this floor, you’ll be able to get past some of the guards
with that disguise, but be careful just in case.”
“Thanks I will” I ran through the door to my right. As I did so I heard two of
the scientists talking.
“Should we really let him go?”
“As far as I’m concerned, he just saved our life. I saw nothing”
With those words ringing in my ears, I began to make my way down the corridor. I
have no idea who or what I am, but whoever I am, I have a feeling I’ve done this
before…
